Board of Trustees
Our church is run by a seven-member Board of Trustees. They are charged with the duty of keeping the church solvent, hiring staff, dealing with "business things", and guiding our direction.
Board members are elected by the congregation at our Annual Meeting in May, and serve one or two-year terms. There is a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, and three members at large.
Unitarian Universalist congregations are free to run themselves as they see fit, and although they receive their charter from the national body (the Unitarian Universalist Association headquartered in Boston, Mass.), we govern ourselves.
Committees
Unitarian Universalists love committees!
UU's do things by consensus and value the democratic process.
The congregation carries out much work through our standing committees and various fundraising
groups and task forces. There are many ways for members and friends to participate actively
in the life of our congregation.
We have committees for the following:
- Sunday Services
Arranges the schedule for Sunday services, including finding interesting guest speakers and programs that our own lay people can provide. - Children's Religious Education
Confers with the Director of RE on the curriculum, and supports the Children's RE program in many ways such as teaching, activities, etc. - Adult Religious Education
Together with the Director of RE, organizes and offers workshops, lectures, and readings in various topics of interest to the congregation's members. - Social Justice
Initiates actions on social justice topics. This year their focus is on global warming, and the committee is not only educating the congregation in this area, but changing our behavior. - Membership
Welcomes new members and visitors, keeps track of member information, publishes the member directory. - Finance
Develops the congregation's annual budget, monitors member pledges, keeps us solvent. - Interweave
Does outreach and advocates for the GLBT community.
