Religious Wedding Ceremonies Offered
Monday October 21 at 6 pm, or Sunday, October 27 at 1 pm
Email marriage@uucsjs.org for more information.

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the South Jersey Shore will be offering on two separate days "Free Marriage Conversions" for Domestic Partnership and Civil Union couples of any faith who wish to exchange wedding vows. Their minister will solemnize legal marriages at the Unitarian Universalist Center, 75 S. Pomona Road in Galloway, NJ.

The congregation will be open for weddings on Monday evening, October 21 starting at 6 pm. Couples must have obtained a marriage license valid in Galloway Township, NJ without the usual waiting period. For those who can wait, weddings may also be scheduled for Sunday, October 27 starting at 1 pm. For details on legal requirements, see Lambda Legal NJ Marriage FAQ.

Reverend Charlie Dieterich explained: "Couples who are currently 'domestically partnered' or 'civilly unioned' have already had the party, already exchanged their vows. They are already married in all but name. The court has said that delay in obtaining full marriage rights is a hardship, and we agree. We offer a simple ceremony to allow them to change their legal status."

"We are happy to support couples of all faiths, and offer our UU Center as a venue for these ceremonies, with no charge," says congregation president Karen York.

Any interested couples should contact the congregation at 609-965-9400, or email Rev. Dieterich at marriage@uucsjs.org for more information.

A Spiritual Home for You and Your Family

Welcome to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the South Jersey Shore!

Our liberal religion comes out of the Judeo-Christian tradition, but we draw from many teachers, sages and prophets throughout the ages. Ours is a non-creedal religion. We think that reason, personal experience and conscience should be the final authorities in religion. We firmly believe that people should be encouraged to think for themselves, and that their differences in lifestyles and opinions should be honored by all. We want our children to learn about the great questions of life, but encourage them to find their own answers.

On Sunday mornings from 10:00 to 11:00, we gather for services and for religious education classes. We meet in a beautiful new building near the north entrance to Richard Stockton College, at the corner of Pomona Road and Liebig Street, Galloway Township, Atlantic County. Click here for a map and directions. We are a growing congregation!

When you arrive, you will be welcomed by greeters. We wear nametags to make it easier for newcomers, and you will be given one too. At services you will find about 70 or so adults, and around 20 children. Dress is casual. After services most people stay for "coffee hour" -- fellowship and light snacks.

Our services are led by Rev. Cynthia Cain about half the time, and the remainder by lay leaders and guest speakers. There is much variety in the content and style of our services. One thing members often say is, "Services are always interesting."

Come see for yourself! And by all means, click on the links to the left to learn more about what we do, who we are, and what we believe.
